About Us

Wevers Cabinet Shop has been providing homes with high quality, custom built cabinetry, countertops, and installation, for over 60 years. Founded by Clarence Wevers in 1956, the company was family owned and passed down to his son Greg Wevers until the spring of 2017 when an employee of Wevers Cabinet shop named Todd Batchelor and his wife Tanya purchased the shop.

“I jokingly tell people I have sawdust in my veins,” said Todd Batchelor, the new owner of Wevers Cabinet Shop in Baldwin. “I knew from a very young age that I wanted to be in the industry.”

Batchelor was an employee of former owner Greg Wevers when he found out that Greg would sell the business to the right person. And after talking to bankers, realtors and doing much planning, the sale to Batchelor was finalized in the spring of this year.

So far, “It’s been amazing,” said Todd. “Business has been great.” He said the Wevers name has come to mean high quality and honesty and he plans to continue that tradition. “I was concerned about being the new guy in town but business has been great and we’ve been tremendously busy.”

Todd grew up in Stillwater, Minn. where he graduated from high school in 1995. He then moved to New Richmond and now he and his wife live in Star Prairie. Following high school Todd attended St. Paul College for the two year course of cabinet-making. In the years since he worked at Apostle Fixtures in North Hudson and then Balsam Millwork in New Richmond. However, Balsam was more involved in wood trim and “I enjoyed the cabinet-making more,” Todd said, so he went to Myron’s in Houlton. However, after a fire he wasn’t able to continue working there full-time so he looked elsewhere, which landed him at Wevers in December of 2014.

Todd says he and his wife along with his in-laws vactioned together and his mother-in-law told him he should start his own cabinet making business, but that wasn’t something Todd felt comfortable doing. But he did ask Greg Wevers what his plans were and Greg replied that if the right person came along he’d sell the business. That was in 2016 and by spring 2017 the sale was complete.

“We’re truly blessed that all the pieces came together,” Todd related. “He [Greg] was an answer to our prayers and we were an answer to his prayers.”

Currently the shop employs two full-time workers and one part-time as well as Todd. The part-time employee is Todd’s step-son Adam who is a junior at Osceola High School and wants to go into the cabinet making business.

The business is a bit of a family affair: not only is Todd’s step-son employed, but his wife Tanya and mother-in-law Judy do the bookkeeping and payroll; his daughter Maryalyce and step-daughter Megan come in on the weekends and do the cleaning.  Todd said that with ownership of the business he is in the shop less than before to do the bidding, estimating and drawing. “But I still get into the shop some.”
